- CELLPHONE POLICY- In the interest of helping all students to be as successful as possible, the freshman English teachers have implemented a no cell phone policy. In the past, we have noticed a correlation between students being distracted by cell phones and low grades. We know that every student has the ability to succeed, and we feel that being focused on outside issues during classroom instruction time only hinders our students' abilities. If a student chooses to disregard this policy, the student's cell phone will be confiscated, and the students' parent will be responsible for retrieving the cell phone from the office.
- MACBOOK POLICY - The school issues macbook computers are considered a school supply for students. They will need to charge it each evening and bring it to school every day. We use the laptops frequently and it is a detriment to the student when they are not prepared with their mac. Macbooks are intended for educational use. If a student is caught gaming, watching movies, using social media, etc. during class, the teacher may confiscate the laptop for the remainder of class and return it to the student before they head to their next period. We love the opportunity that McKinney ISD students have by being provided with such an awesome tool, and we expect the students to respect this privilege and use their technology responsibly.

- GRADING POLICY- In high school, students are expected to complete and submit their assignments in a timely manner. It is the student's responsibility to seek help if they are having trouble completing an assignment. If no arrangements have been made with the teacher prior to an assignment's due date, then students will be allowed ONE DAY to submit a late assignment-FOR PREAP ONLY. If the assignment is late, twenty points will be automatically deducted. After that one grace day, any and all late assignments will not be accepted, and the student will receive a grade of zero. FOR ACADEMIC STUDENTS: Late work will be accepted for up to three school days past the due date, with 10 points deducted each day. *PLEASE NOTE: any assignments submitted past the acceptable late work policy will not be considered for credit.
- RETEACH/RE-TAKES - If a student fails a SUMMATIVE assignment , they are offered a reteach/re-take opportunity on the assessment for a possible score of 80% for academic courses and 75% for pre-ap. Students are allowed FIVE DAYS after an assignment has been graded and returned to re-do/re-take a failed assignment. Students may be required to make arrangements to come in before or after school to complete reteach assignments and/or re-take tests. Students must complete any reteach prerequisites assigned by their teacher within the 5 day window between the original assessment and the retest opportunity. *Please note: failure to complete the reteach prerequisites will result in the student not being able to complete the retest. Reteaching is REQUIRED before any student will be allowed to retest. This is the student's responsibility and must be completed during the 5 day retest window. This option DOES NOT apply to formative or "quiz" assignments.
- ABSENCES- For every day that you are absent, you have that many days to turn in make up work.
- All major assignments such as papers are DUE ON THE ORIGINAL DUE DATE. There are NO EXCEPTIONS
to this policy. If you are absent the day a paper or other major assignment is due, the assignment is due on the DAY YOU RETURN at the BEGINNING OF CLASS.
- For school sponsored absences, the missed assignment is due on THE DAY YOU RETURN at the beginning of the class period. YOU are responsible for your assignments!
